Government invests £3m in ‘hat-cams’

The Government is investing £3 million to equip frontline police officers in England and Wales with ‘hat-cams’.
The CCTV cameras, which are attached to police headware, have been trialled by police forces in Plymouth, Nottingham and Norwich.
The devices have proved to be successful in providing strong evidence which helps to speed the rate of successful prosecutions.
Presenting video evidence of the suspect at the scene of the crime results in fewer ‘not guilty’ pleas and less time in court.
The funding was announced by Mr Tony McNulty, the Minister of State for Police, Crime, Security and Counter-Terrorism.
