Centralised networks from Bosch’s new management system

Story link: Centralised networks from Bosch’s new management system by Lin Freestone

Bosch Security Systems has launched a new management system which aims to provide centralised management and monitoring of video servers, cameras and iSCSI storage units on IP-based CCTV networks.

Called the Video Recording Manager, the system should make it easier to manage storage capacities by treating data logically or virtually, instead of at a physical level.

Bosch claims that this process of virtualisation will give operators complete flexibility when they are allocating storage throughout the network. When video is recorded, it is distributed over all available iSCSI RAID units on the network, rather than onto a single storage device directly connected to an NVR.

The Video Recording Manager’s ability to automatically re-route video to alternative iSCSI units should ensure data is available at all times, even in the event of an array failure.

It will be possible to set up a second version of the manager to provide backup if the first server fails. Even if this backup fails, each iSCSI RAID unit can record for a further 128Gb (equivalent to about 10 camera-days on a 1Mbps camera stream).

VRM 1.0 can also keep track of storage usage per camera and assign a set storage capacity to each device, depending on how much it requires.
