Linksys has released the WVC54GC compact wireless webcam - an updated version of the WVC54G which was released in 2006.

The webcam functions as a surveillance camera and include a range of security features including motion detection which can record images to a PC when activated.

These images can then be sent via email as half-a-meg ASF clips. Live video can also be viewed over the Internet when using Internet Explorer as the web browser.

Te device comes with a number of software tools. A user can monitor up to eight WVC54GCs simultaneously or can subscribe to a central monitoring service, Intamac, at a cost of £5 per month per camera. The Intamac service integrates the video camera with a burglar alarm.
