Metronet Liverpool to support wireless IP CCTV video streaming

Story link: Metronet Liverpool to support wireless IP CCTV video streaming by Jan Harris

Following the success of its secure wireless IP broadband network, Manchester Metronet is creating a new division, Metronet Liverpool, extending its service to the European City of Culture.

In 2006, Manchester Metronet developed a secure wireless network capable of streaming high bandwidth fixed fibre-quality live video CCTV images. It provided the first support for wireless IP CCTV video streaming and the installation of the UK’s first gigabit wireless connection.

Metronet Liverpool’s broadband network will be used for applications such as CCTV and the enforcement of traffic regulations. The wireless operation of CCTV cameras offers the advantage of being able to easily relocate the cameras when necessary.

Metronet Manchester’s gigabit wireless service allows ultra high-speed data transfers at a significantly lower cost than the service offered by cable networks.

Around three quarters of the UK’s gigabit wireless links are registered to Manchester Metronet.

It is hoped that the new division will similarly deploy city-wide gigabit wireless coverage in Liverpool.
