West Norfolk Council has upgraded its CCTV system with an investment of £146,500.
The Council first installed CCTV in 1992. The new investment has included the conversion of the control room monitors to 19 and 40-inch flatscreens.
The Hardware has been upgraded to digital, to speed up the process of retrieving images. Recording is now possible at a speed of 12.5 instead of 1.5 frames per second, providing much smoother footage.
Images from any of the cameras can now be pulled up onto a larger screen in the control room, allowing operators to react more effectively.
There were originally 46 cameras linked to the control room. This has grown to a network of 167 cameras covering Lynn town centre and the surrounding areas.
Hunstanton is now also covered by cameras and there are plans to introduce cameras to Downham.
A new radio system, which links shops, businesses and pubs to the control room has been brought in-house.
