Train operator, First ScotRail, is planning to extend its CCTV network with another 116 cameras, in order to further improve passenger safety.
The company will deploy the new cameras at three stations – 47 at Inverness, 46 at Motherwell and 23 at Glasgow Queen Street Low Level.
It is investing a total of £350,000 in the new cameras, together with eight CCTV help points at the three stations. These are designed to provide extra reassurance to passengers and will also act as 24-hour information points.
The work, which is scheduled for completion in April, will give First ScotRail a total of 3,950 cameras and 441 CCTV help points at 241 stations across Scotland.
The company’s focus on passenger security helped it to achieve 72% in customer satisfaction in a national passenger survey by Passenger Focus, the consumer watchdog, representing a 9% improvement for the company on the previous year.
