Acam Technology provides DVR without the cost of cabling
Story link: Acam Technology provides DVR without the cost of cabling by Jan Harris

Acam Technology has developed new technology to provide high quality DVR with the need for new cameras or extensive and expensive coaxial camera cabling.
Acam’s MPEG-2 single-channel encoder, from South African DVR manufacturer Cathexis, is integrated with the same company’s catSite site management software to interface with existing corporate networks.
The system connects via Ethernet to provide savings on cost compared with systems that use fibre for video transmission.
Encoders installed on the network are configured in Cathexis’ catPro software and fully integrated with the catSite interface. Each encoder appears as another camera on the network, without the need for additional hardware.
The compression ratio and resolution are scaled independently for each encoder, providing optimum image quality under all conditions.
