IMS Research sees network video slowdown
Story link: IMS Research sees network video slowdown by Jan Harris

IMS Research, an elecronics market consultancy, has noted a slowdown in the US network video surveillance market in early 2008.
Although this market almost doubled in 2007, IMS predicts that the slowdown will continue during the year, due to current difficulties in the US economy, which grew by just 0.9% in the first quarter.
Economic uncertainty is leading companies to cut back on capital expenditure, and postpone the implementation of planning security projects.
However, according to IMS, the US market for network video surveillance products is still growing, although at a reduced rate.
It could even achieve healthy 40% growth this year, helped by the continuing uptake of network video surveillance instead of analogue CCTV.
Separately, IMS has also identified a growing need for additional storage capacity in CCTV systems, and predicts that by 2012, new surveillance systems will require 3.3 exabytes of storage.
