SafetyEYE provides 3D zone monitoring

Story link: SafetyEYE provides 3D zone monitoring by Jan Harris

Pilz, a market leader in safe, integrated automation, is launching SafetyEYE, an innovative camera system which provides three-dimensional zone monitoring.

The system is ideal for automotive production lines and other automated manufacturing environments. It has the potential to reduce machine downtime and takes up less floor space than traditional machinery guarding systems.

SafetyEYE takes only two hours to set up and costs 70% less than safety light curtains.

The system comprises a sensing device with three greyscale cameras to provide 3D coverage and an analysis unit for processing images.
If a person enters a warning zone, an alarm is sounded and the hazardous machinery is slowed down. If the detection zone is entered, the machinery is brought to an immediate standstill.

Pilz developed the SafetyEYE system in collaboration with DaimlerChrysler.
