Companies in Blackburn and Darwen have voted in favour of a Business Improvement District, which will see the council investing £250,000 on CCTV and automatic number plate recognition cameras.
The scheme is expected to significantly increase security for local business and help combat crime and anti-social behaviour.
Blackburn with Darwen Council will create the Business Improvement District, which will cover the Whitebirk, Greenbank and Furthergate industrial estates.
It will cost the 247 eligible firms within the zone a one-off amount per year of between £320 and £2,000, depending on their rateable value.
Ninety-four out of the 247 eligible businesses voted in the ballot to decide if the scheme should go ahead. Out of these, 89 per cent voted in favour of the Business Improvement District.
