Genetec and iView Face Recognition Alerts

Story link: Genetec and iView Face Recognition Alerts by Alan Harten

Technology that allows the automated collection of license plate details, known as License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology is now highly sophisticated and efficient.

It is highly reliable and effective for many kinds of applications including those utilised by local authorities.

Now two major Canadian companies have joined together to create a new integrated system that not only collects information but can also bring together risk management of safety and security as well as new self exclusion programs.

The two companies, Genetec and iView Systems, have realised that they each have systems that would benefit from integration with each other.

The iView system will now be married with AutoVu Sharp cameras in an effort to bring about a unified system especially in the area of self exclusion programs.

This new self exclusion concept involves people with gambling addiction problems.

With the new program the gambler consents to signing a self exclusion contract.

By doing so he agrees that he will not enter a specific gambling institution or multiple casinos or other places where gambling takes place.

Once integrated into the system, if the gambler enters one of these premises the cameras will recognise his face and the alert system will inform security staff that the individual should be removed from the premises as per their contract.

Although it is, for the time being, a crap-shoot as to how many gamblers would want to indulge in self denial of this nature, it is clear that such a system could have other far reaching applications.

One that springs to mind would be for use with law-enforcement such as when individuals are banned from entering certain areas; the system would be able to identify those individuals and alert the authorities.
