CCTV investment for Colwyn Bay

New CCTV cameras and lighting are set to be installed in Colwyn Bay’s town centre, as part of a £38m project to revitalise sea fronts and town centres across north Wales.
£19m of the funding is coming from the European Union, and this is being matched by other sources such as the assembly government and local councils.
The funding will support 14 projects in total, in Bangor, Rhyl, Caernarfon, Holyhead, Amlwch and Llangefni, as well as Colwyn Bay.
The sea front at Colwyn Bay will also be improved in order to boost tourism in the town.
There have been calls for CCTV in Colwyn Bay for some time.
Last December a war memorial in the town’s Queen’s Gardens was sprayed with paint by vandals, who used the memorial’s steps as a BMX run.
At the time Colwyn Bay council said it would provide new bollards and chain links to protect the memorial, and would consider the installation of CCTV cameras.
