Gloucester to test ‘talking’ CCTV cameras
Story link: Gloucester to test ‘talking’ CCTV cameras by Jan Harris

After CCTV cameras have been in place for a while, people tend to become a little blasé about them.
Gloucester Council now plans to add a new element to its surveillance strategy by testing ‘talking’ CCTV cameras’ in the city.
Offenders seen by camera operators dropping litter or behaving in an anti-social manner will be asked through a loudspeaker to stop, giving them a sharp and timely reminder that they are being watched.
The council is also publishing photographs of people dropping litter on its website.
