Market intelligence company, Research and Markets, expects the CCTV market to grow by between 3.9% and 4.1% year-on-year in the UK.
The company estimates that in 2006, the total UK CCTV market, excluding the cost of monitoring, was valued at £560m at end-user prices, an increase of 5.7% compared with 2005.
Under the continued threat of terrorism, CCTV for public security continues to dominate the market, but there is also increasing interest in CCTV for the home.
Concern about public security and the crime rate is expected to continue to drive the market, together with the need to replace and upgrade older security systems.
The cost of equipment is continuing to fall, due to the availability of products from countries where labour costs are low. The development of the world market for CCTV has also provided economies of scale in production.
Lower costs have been offset by a demand for improved technology, the availability of which is stimulating the need to extend and upgrade existing networks.
The demand for Internet-protocol (IP) network cameras is growing strongly, and there is also increased use of digital recorders, although there are still many analogue recorders in the installed base.
