Telent Upgrades Network Rail’s DOO Systems

Communications company Telent has been selected by Network Rail to help upgrade Driver Only Operator (DOO) systems at stations across South East England.
DOO systems allow the transfer of passengers on and off the train to be managed by train’s driver, without the need for controllers on the platform.
DOO solutions employ CCTV cameras which feed images of the train’s exterior to monitors.
The monitors are positioned on the platform so that the train driver has a clear view of embarking and disembarking passengers, and knows when it is safe to move off.
Under the new contract, telent will replace cameras, monitors, housings and cabling at 159 platforms across 66 stations served by Southeastern and Southern trains.
To ensure that the monitors are placed in the optimum position on each platform, telent uses an in-house software modelling package to design the CCTV camera and monitor layouts.
During the project telent will install 900 CCTV cameras, 1200 monitors and all associated housing and cabling works across the 159 platforms.
The project is scheduled for completion in June 2010.
