Macedonia to install CCTV in health service premises
Story link: Macedonia to install CCTV in health service premises by Lin Freestone

The Macedonian government is planning to put all public health service premises under constant watch to enable better control over the quality of the health service, and to increase the security of the medical staff.
Surveillance cameras will be installed at hospital entrances, reception desks and in hallways. Medical stores and central pharmacies will also have closed circuit cameras. The approximate cost of the installation will be €1m.
The decision to install the CCTV surveillance system has been prompted by constant complaints from patients about the poor quality of service in the public health sector, including long waiting in queues and an attitude based on ignorance. Privacy of patients and staff will be protected as all the cameras will be located in public areas, in accordance with the law.
Cameras placed in the central pharmacies, and in medical stores, will monitor the work of the employees and prevent possible theft of valuable medicines. Teams from the Macedonian ministry of health have inspected health institutions across the country and discovered large amounts of medical material stored in various depots.
