Story link: Maplin records 70% sales growth of CCTV for home use by Jan Harris

Maplin, the electrical retailer, has announced a 70% increase in its sales of security cameras for domestic use, over the past year.

In response to soaring demand, the retailer now stocks over 90 different security cameras and CCTV kits, with cameras that allow remote monitoring via the internet proving particularly popular.

As well as domestic CCTV products, Maplins also stocks systems suitable for small businesses. Its CCTV camera units range in price from £29.99 to £150.

Maplins sold the most CCTV kits at its Leeds stores, with Swansea in second place and Nottingham third.

Human rights group, Liberty, recently called for greater regulation of the use of household CCTV cameras, especially where they are installed in a way which infringes on other people’s privacy.
