Sound Intelligence to test CCTV in Coventry

Story link: Sound Intelligence to test CCTV in Coventry by Jan Harris

Pioneering CCTV cameras from Sound Intelligence of the Netherlands, is to be trialled in Coventry.

The cameras feature innovative sound detection technology, which can detect indicators of aggression in people’s voices. It can also recognise fear in voices, such as cries for help from people under attack.

The cameras record both sound and images, and can distinguish between distress calls and general shouting.

Sensors in the cameras are connected to a computer which is designed to perform sound analysis. If aggression is detected, a link to the central control room is activated, quickly bringing incidents to the attention of operators.

Coventry will be the first location in the UK to use the new technology, which will be trialled by Sound Intelligence free of charge. If the trial proves successful the system will be installed in other locations in the city.

It could be deployed in subways and other areas where people are vulnerable to attack.
