Seller of car accessories and spare parts in Sweden, Micro AB - which is equivalent to Unipart in the UK and Trak Auto in the US - have signed a deal to install colour cameras in their stores made by the Californian-based, Rainbow.
Micro AB are installing the Rainbow colour DSP 460 line cameras which have the added bonus of being available in both PAL and NTSC, and can also work in illumination as low as 0.3 lux whilst still being in high gain mode at F1.2.
So far, fourteen of Micro AB’s stores have had the cameras installed, and another fourteen are scheduled to have cameras installed in the near future.
The new cameras are going to be used in conjunction with eight-channel digital video recorders, which are coming for the New York based company, Aventura Technologies, who gained notoriety recently for providing NASA with recording equipment for the Shuttle Discovery Programme.
The cameras are all to be monitored from a remote control centre in Helsingborg in southern Sweden, though the Swedish headquarters of Micro AB are actually in Stockholm.
This isn’t the first time that Rainbow cameras have been used in Europe, as the Danish police force has been using them for some time with noted positive results, and a reputable garage chain in Denmark has also been using them.
The deal was organised by Secure Vision International, who stated that the use of Rainbow cameras is due to the proven hardiness of the units, and that the colour pick up is very similar to the human eye.
The Rainbow colour 460 lines DSP has Sony HAD CCDTM along with backlight compensation, electronic iris, and a three year warranty.
