Ubiqz pioneers IP security in Tripoli

Ubiqz Ltd, a London-based security systems integrator, has worked with a local installer in Tripoli, Libya, on a £250,000 Internet-addressable camera surveillance project.
The project involved the installation of 40 Sony cameras over 11 floors of a brand-new finance tower block in the Dat el-Emad complex, in Tripoli’s financial district.
IP security networks have not yet been widely adopted in the Middle East, and the project was one of the first of its kind in the region.
Ubiqz worked with the existing security installer, facilitating the seamless integration of the IP solution, while the local installer took the lead in client communication.
The tower block was already equipped with suitable structured cabling, and Libyan engineers installed the new units while Ubiqx oversaw the operation and acted as an advisor when required.
The new camera system monitors workers and customers as they enter and leave the building as well as ATM areas, foreign exchange desks and an underground treasury section.
Images are sent to a central control room, where operators look for unusual incidents or patterns of behaviour. If anything is spotted which causes concern, images can be searched retrospectively using the cameras’ embedded intelligence.
The system utilises Sony’s RealShot Manager software, which can provide schematic diagrams of camera layouts on each floor.
