Stagecoach has signed a £1.5m contract to deploy CCTV on the 580 new buses ordered by the company in 2008 and 2009.
The buses will be fitted with digital CCTV systems from LOOK CCTV, a subsidiary of Quadnetics group.
LOOK will also be responsible for the installation and maintenance of the new systems, in a 12-month contract.
The CCTV system includes wireless network applications, which will streamline CCTV maintenance, and provide more than sufficient storage capacity for video and audio recordings.
Stagecoach is making the investment as part of its strategy to reduce crime on buses.
It also hopes that footage from the CCTV cameras will help it fight fraudulent insurance claims.
LOOK CCTV is a specialist in on-vehicle digital CCTV systems and has installed over 16,000 systems to date.
