Cable&Wireless Worldwide has signed a distribution agreement with VideoCells which will bring cost-effective, next-generation Web-based IP CCTV to the UK market.
As an alternative to traditional Digital Video Recording devices (DVRs), the agreement will see the release of a new technology called Web Video Recording (WebVR).
WebVR provides a lower cost solution for securely storing surveillance video taken with an Internet Protocol (IP) camera and accessing it from the Internet via a PC or mobile device.
The service is available for a low monthly fee.
VideoCells’ CEO, Stuart Steinberg, said: “The significance of a global Tier 1 telecom provider like Cable&Wireless taking advantage of our WebVR technology signifies a major turning point in how companies will deal with storing, forwarding, accessing and managing video.”
Cable&Wireless Worldwide also announced that customer numbers grew 35% in India, in the first half of 2009, compared with the same period in 2008.
The company experienced growth in emerging markets, including Sri Lanka where it secured a significant deal with Sri Lanka Telecom.
