Surveillance cameras used along the Midland Metro tram lines, which run between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, are to be upgraded from analogue to digital.
West Midlands Passenger Transport Authority has approved funding to a total value of £290,000 for the upgrade, which should provide higher quality pictures than the existing system, and help with the identification of suspects.
There are currently 72 cameras along the route and the revamp will provide a new control room and 103 further cameras, significantly enhancing security measures within the network.
The digital system will have the capacity to cover any future expansion of the Metro network.
