CCTV to be deployed in Hamble

Story link: CCTV to be deployed in Hamble by Jan Harris

The Parish Council has approved the deployment of CCTV in the village of Hamble, near Southampton, as part of a strategy to reduce grafitti, antisocial behaviour, and attacks on village residents.

The decision to install CCTV cameras at various locations throughout the yachting village follows several recent attacks on people in the village.

The latest attack involved a gang of drunken youths who attacked a 31 year old man without any provocation, leaving him with head injuries.

The youths didn’t stop their attack until residents from a nearby house came to the man’s aid, at which point they ran away.

The same gang of youths is believed to have been responsible for several other attacks in the village.

CCTV has been used in the village before, but the Parish Council now plans to invest around £6,500 a year to extend the coverage.

New CCTV cameras will be installed on Coronation Parade, the Foreshore, and the pavilions at College Playing Fields and Mount Pleasant.
