Charnwood Borough Council’s CCTV control centre has been officially opened after being relocated from Loughborough Police Station.
The state-of-the-art centre will provide around the clock monitoring of CCTV cameras in Loughborough, and there are already plans to extend the system to cover Anstey, Birstall, Mountsorrel, Sileby, Syston and Thurmaston.
Before the move the cameras were observed for less than 30 hours a week by just one operator.
Additional operators have now been recruited, providing an enhanced level of support to emergency services via the CCTV and communications system.
Operators are trained to watch for suspicious behaviour patterns and to use the system to gather imagery of offences.
