Breckland Council has agreed to invest in a new CCTV system in Swaffham, Norfolk.
The Council has a network of 62 CCTV cameras in five market towns. The system was installed in 1995 and is now outdated.
It will now be replaced with modern, digital technology, which will produce much higher quality images.
The Council’s 24-hour CCTV control room in Thetford will also benefit from new equipment. An initial £25,000 will be invested in the upgrade.
Breckland Council is also considering proposals to reduce the number of fixed cameras in urban areas.
These would be replaced with mobile cameras, which would be deployed to problem areas and could be more effective in helping to reduce crime.
