Edinburgh Council monitors traffic with SENKOADL lenses

Story link: Edinburgh Council monitors traffic with SENKOADL lenses by Jan Harris

Edinburgh City Council has deployed video equipment from SENKOADL, a US-based supplier of high quality CCTV lenses, to monitor traffic in the centre of Edinburgh.

The Council installed around 50 fixed focal length lenses from SENKOADL, mainly on traffic light poles at major roads leading in and out of the city.

The 2/3” format lenses are 35mm and 50mm models which are being used mainly from USB board cameras. The images are digitally recorded and reviewed retrospectively by the Council’s traffic analysts.

The equipment provides the Council with information about journey times and any areas of congestion, allowing it compile an overview of traffic flows in and out of Edinburgh.

This information allows the Council to make informed decisions on measures to improve traffic flow and safety.

The 35mm model lenses are C mount units with an iris range of F2.0 – F22 and a manual iris drive.

The horizontal angle of view is 14.3° (1/3”) and 10.4° (1/4”), while minimum object distance is 0.25m.

The lenses use low dispersion glass and are ideal for demanding light conditions and 24-hour surveillance.
