Islington Installs VoIP-enabled CCTV Help Point

Story link: Islington Installs VoIP-enabled CCTV Help Point by Jan Harris

The London Borough of Islington has installed a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)-enabled CCTV help point kiosk in Holloway - an area of high crime levels.

The kiosk, which was supplied by iPlus, has a 24-hour help button which allows a caller to speak to staff in the council’s 24-hour CCTV control room using VoIP.

Control room staff can see the kiosk via CCTV and talk to the caller over VoIP to provide assistance.

Control room staff can notify the police of an incident and transfer images to the police monitor so they can quickly view the scene.

Islington has the largest municipal wireless broadband network in London, providing residents with free internet access and access to information about council services.

Islington was also one of the first areas to use iPlus Points - kiosks providing information on local council services using touch screen navigation.

Users can access internet based services from the kiosks, send and receive emails, access information about council services and look at and print off street maps, free of charge.
