Dunbar CCTV bid succeeds

Dunbar has succeeded in its bid to have CCTV cameras deployed in the town, after over a decade of campaigning for the technology.
East Lothian Council announced this week that Dunbar will be included in the ‘Safer Communities’ strategy, which will be introduced next week.
The strategy gives a firm commitment for CCTV facilities in some towns that were previously unmonitored.
Around six cameras will be positioned at key locations along the high street in Dunbar. These will operate around the clock.
The council also plan to invest in a mobile CCTV van which will be able to be quickly deployed to trouble spots.
East Lothian Council is to consult with police on the precise level of surveillance which will be required.
It is not yet known when the cameras will be installed.
