Drivers face new CCTV fine challenge.
Story link: Drivers face new CCTV fine challenge. by David Masters

Drivers who enter the lanes designated for cyclists could find themselves being caught on CCTV and being presented with a £120 fine for their trouble. Plans that give local authorities even more powers to enforce traffic infringements are to be given the go ahead. This will see the introduction of CCTV systems dedicated to monitoring the cycle lanes on a 24/7 basis.
This must be great time to be in the CCTV business as there are more and more local authorities getting the funds to purchase whole systems that monitor almost everyone, where ever they go.
But drivers who think that it is just going into the cycle lane that will result in being caught on CCTV, will have to think again. The cameras are to be set so that they are able to catch even the slightest of infringement, which would include just being in the lane briefly to pass a car that is turning right, just creeping over the line and moving into the cycle boxes. These are the lined off areas normally found at traffic lights, CCTV will also be looking at these areas too.
For drivers who live, work or just happen to be travelling through these areas, they will need to be on their guard, because they will be watched by some of the most sophisticated CCTV traffic monitoring systems around, and for those who are caught, the price will be high.
