The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has welcomed the National CCTV Strategy, which was published this week by the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers.
The BSIA believes the strategy will promote the development of a holistic approach to the way CCTV is deployed and regulated in the UK.
According to Pauline Norstrom, chairman of BSIA’s CCTV section, the proposed plans will enhance public safety and help to reduce crime.
The BSIA is the trade association for the UK’s professional security industry. In this capacity it is involved with the National Strategy Programme Board and has contributed to the development of the National CCTV strategy.
It is also collaborating with the Home Office Scientific Development Branch on a number of common issues.
The organisation’s areas of interest include developing standards and codes of practice on digital video evidence; remotely-monitored, detector-activated CCTV; privacy masking; the use of CCTV with Chip and PIN; and data protection.
BSIA’s CCTV publications are available at www.bsia.co.uk/cctv and the National CCTV Strategy is available to download at wwww.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/cctv/cctv048.htm
