Final tests are being completed on the new data network at St Pancras International Station in London.
The newly refurbished railway station is due to open this year, following an £800m investment. Improvements include a £500,000 data network by ICT specialist Bailey Teswaine, providing one of the fastest networking infrastructures in the UK.
It will be the hub of the station management platform and enable the provision of an advanced CCTV security system and other key functions such as ticketing, timekeeping and information systems.
The surveillance solution is based on IP technology from Controlware Communications. It allows video to be monitored from multiple locations. The CCTV images are then transmitted across a dedicated VLAN that runs over the data network, providing quick and easy access for operators to view both live and recorded images.
The systems includes over 450 cameras, including static and dome cameras, IP codecs, networked storage and an advanced management platform. Bosch security products have been deployed, including the Videojet 8008 and VIP-X transmission codecs, Networked Video Recording (NVR), RAID storage, and VIDOS management.
From 14 November, St Pancras will Waterloo as Eurostar’s new central London terminal. Over 45 million people are expected to pass through the station every year.
