Clapham Junction installs intelligent CCTV

Story link: Clapham Junction installs intelligent CCTV by Jan Harris

An intelligent CCTV system, developed by Agent Vi, is being installed at Clapham Junction station.

The system is based on Video Analytics technology which uses computers to indentify unusual behaviour picked up by CCTV cameras.

Although Britain has over 14 million CCTV very few of them are connected to computers capable of processing the information. According to Agent Vi, around 20 percent of these cameras could be linked to computers within three years.

As well as detecting intruders and unusual behaviour, the Clapham Junction system has been designed to detect graffiti.

The system can immediately detect any change to a train’s appearance. It then highlights the defaced carriage on a screen.

This can help staff identify the culprits and keep track of them while the police are alerted.

Transport for London plans to install a similar system at Paddington Station.
