New CCTV regulations now in force
Story link: New CCTV regulations now in force by Jan Harris

New CCTV rules come into force at midnight tonight.
The British Standard 8418 (BS 8418:2003 Installation and remote monitoring of detector activated CCTV systems — Code of practice) is designed to replace unofficial arrangements between the police security providers for CCTV systems which contact the police to deal with incidents but which were not installed in accordance with the standard.
UK security consultant, GSS, warns that companies’ security could be jeopardised if they do not meet the new regulations, because incidents reported by CCTV systems that do not meet the required standard will be refused a unique police reference number (URN).
This could result in delays when police are called to an incident, making an arrest less likely.
Insurance cover could also be invalidated if security systems are not compliant with the new regulations.
