Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum, and am looking for some good advice on gate surveillance. I have a wireless remote controlled gate at the bottom of my drive about 35m away from my house. I would like to monitor the gate with a cctv camera, and having a small screen, wall-mounted next to my front door. Ideally a wireless system would be used, but I will have 2 stone walls, a cavity wall and maybe some vegetation between the camera and screen. I found this system on the internet, which looks ideal: http://www.y3k.com/product.php?xProd=607http://www.y3k.com/product.php?xProd=197&jssCart=6febf62d63bd69cca169 1f02d586fa96 I do however have some issues with it: I’m concerned about range; it specifies 100m, but I have no way of knowing how much this will be reduced by that aforementioned obstacles. The .pdf spec sheet is contradictory: it says 350 tvl, and also 420tvl for the camera. It also says for ‘low risk’ applications, and then in a different section for ‘medium risk’ applications also 2.0 lux and 0.3 lux min light values are specified, the view angles are contradictory too. I emailed the company to clarify these details and to ask if I could return the camera if it was not suitable, but I haven’t yet received a reply after a week or so. So can anyone give me advice on getting a system? The price of the above at about £150 is about right for me. I would prefer a wireless system since otherwise a cable would have to be put all the way down the garden and under a driveway. Having said that, I would be glad of any advice on a wired system also. Also, are there any systems available, similar to the above, but which are expandable to include several cameras, and which would record any detected movement on something like a memory card inserted into the monitor? Thanks in advance, Garth. Last edited by dr_g; 09-25-2008 at 03:30 PM. |

Hi Garth,
I would imagine that the 100m system would be sufficiently powerful to reach where you want it. (100m will probably be a line of sight measurement, but a few walls and some greenery would probably be fine, and remember you can always cable a short distance from your reciever if the signal is too low). A standard DVR (something like a 4 or 8 channel machine) would probably be sufficient for your needs. And while these would probably record on a harddrive, you can always take information off on a USB pen or DVD. As for cabling, this is usually a more reliable route, and sometimes the additional cost of installing the cable is worth it, as you get reliable pictures whatever the weather or obstruction. Just make sure you run an extra cable or two, its always frustrating when you have to run a second cable! If you are still stuck, feel free to visit the link below, and feel free to give us a ring. We're always happy to help.

What are you wanting from the camera? Genral coverage? That camera will be ok but it wont be any good at night, If your wanting number plates you will need a ANPR camera.
