Default Anti-spammers target Spain's national ISP

A US anti-spam group has set its filters to block all email from Spain's government-run internet service provider Telefonica De Espana (TDE), which it accuses of failing to crack down on spam and other junk mail.

The Abusive Hosts Blocking List (AHBL), based in Indiana, US, claims some TDE users are sending out thousands of junk advertising emails, as well as emails pushing financial scams, also known as "419" emails.

The US organisation maintains a list of internet addresses used to send unwanted email. This free service enables companies and ISPs to automatically filter out messages from spammers. But it is rare for a whole ISP to be blocked.

The block was initially imposed at the start of April. In a posting to its web site on Monday, AHBL says TDE has now revealed that most of the unwanted emails come from Spanish internet cafes that use its service.
