Hey Folks
I have a question to ask you folks here concerning something that has been bothering me at work for a while now. I work in a petrol station, been there for over 3 years now. We have 3 cctv cameras at the premises,2 cameras are out side monitoring the forecourt, and 1 camera inside the shop that covers the till area and some of the shop. The cables for all 3 cameras exit the side of the building and go across(under) the forecourt and lead into another business(owned by the same folk that own the petrol station),and go directly into the main office where they are recorded on a pvr(there are other cameras for the other building being recorded too). Now,i have noticed that the 3 coax cables that exit the petrol station there is also a grey coloured cable much thinner than the other 3 which also goes over to the main office. Anyone know what this grey cable might be ?. I mean i am under the impression that it is against the law to record conversations with customers/staff etc,so what can this cable be. I have checked the camera in the shop and there is a black coax cable and a red and black cable which is the power cable, there is no sign of a mic on the camera. Im quite puzzled by this cable and would be real angry if i found out that my employers are listening to our conversations. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers |

A grey cable............... Could be anything, It could be a single power cable feeding 3 camera's, you say oy ucan see 3 coax cables going out of the petrol station but what about them getting power?? It could be another cable for something completely different from the cctv system but used the same cable run, cant you trace the cable to its origin?
regards Iain

The grey cable is definately not the power supplies for the cameras,as i can see where the power supplies for each camera is plugged in.
As for the origin of the grey cable then i dont know, but i intend to trace it tonight when im on the late shift it seems to go around our small back office so it should not be too hard to track it. Kinda creeping me out this as my employers told me that they apparently used to record audio aswell but stopped a few years ago. My only thoughts on this are that the cable is connected to a covert mic or camera in the suspended ceiling. |

Do not Discount that as
it is the Panic System, If you discount that it will sent an Alarm to your Employers and Police, as In past people just lifted DVR and there no evidence. or It could be an power cable as 50% CCTV power cables u see do nothing. As couple years ago i fitted an CCTV and Security system in an Shell Garage where I plugged in power to cameras and part the Vid cable was the power which at end went into the Power which I would link them all up and just have 1 plug that powered all cameras. But please do tell us what it is |

did you find out what this cable was for stu?
If they're PTZ cameras then it could be a data cable, this would usually run back to the DVR but could run back to a separate joypad controller elsewhere for somebody to operate the movement of the cameras who is also watching the area live......not likely but possible.
