Hi all, first post!
My dad uses a 4 camara system that stores images on an hard drive (all 4 on one screen but i thought that was just the software for the system?). It records when there is "motion", not sure if it records all 4 or the one with motion. I fitted him a new hd, works great and has more storage. My main question, why can't i access the files on the old hd? I thought i would find a file type and then sort out a program to view/ edit them? I can't even access the drive (not visible on pc). Basically he wants to remove parts of the video and save them to DVD for viewing on a TV. A number of our family have died over the lst few years and he wants to save the video with them on! Is it possible? Thanks in advance for any advice, not sure what the hd unit is but it was from Maplin Thought it would be straight forward ![]() |

The reason you just cant acces the files on the hard drive to edit them is because the item your talking about is a security device and would hopefully have a system in place to prevent video editing, what i suggest is that you install the hardrive back into the original dvr, dump what you want onto a penstick then use the correct software to view it on your pc and maybe convert it to an avi file, regards iain

Thanks for the advice. Sadly there is no USB or other connection to download the contents through! Thats why i got him another HD to swap to.
Maybe not as straight forward as i thought .Already bought him the HD enclosure so its easy for him to use instead of installing it as a slave on a pc as it is now.Any other thoughts appreciated, never thought about any security encription, i will ask him if he has any options to turn encription on/ off. I suppose it could be captured from the video out signal? |

Yes it could, you could use a vga converter to use a second capture card........
Seems like a long way round though.......
