Default Help me to stop break-in

Hi all

I wanted to ask for your help in finding a suitable security system for a small business I run

I own a small kiosk from which I sell ice cream. It's located in a park

My Kiosk has been broken into 3 times now and they have taken all the stock and broken the equipment.

I was advised by the police to install some security systems but I have no idea what to look for. I only have a small budget and wanted to see what type of equipment might be suitable.

I heard there is some equipment available which beams live footage to my lap top if the CCTV cameras sense motion. Is that true?

I would really welcome all advice and suggestions.

Many thanks in advance

My advice is not to install CCTV. It will not stop the break ins.

If you have a limited budget spend it on physical security (screens, bariers, steel doors etc and a monitored intruder alarm.

CCTV should be at the bottom of your shopping list

Where were you thinking of installing the cameras? inside the van?

As Ilkie says the break in will have already taken place.

To beam the images will require more hardware in your vehicle and a wireless internet link, just more stuff that will probably be stolen.

If you wanted to capture images of a break in to pass on to the poilce then you could have cameras overlooking your van but this would really require you to have access to a nearby building in order to cable the cameras into a recording device - again as Ilkie says this is very unlikely to actually prevent the break in though.

An "all in one" type trail camera could be used if you could hide it in a tree close enough to the van but again this is not going to prevent a break in, only hopefully record images of it taking place...

What about an alarm system and some vibration detectors fitted in side the stand, when we look at installing a security alarm we explain to our cutomers that p.i.r detectors work great once the perpitrator is inside the house..... Unfortunatly the damage and upset has already been caused, with vibration detectors the system will activate befored they have gained entry therefore causeing little or no damage, you could also link the syetm into a gsm (mobile phone) dialler so upon activation the sytem would call you on your phone (upto 3 different numbers) and let you know of the attempted break in. As pakatak has very well stated cctv wont stop them you will just get some footage of the damage and breakin to watch, and if your budget is that tight you would probably be forced to buy cheap camera's and the footage would be just that cheap! Kind Regards Iain

Thanks guys for all the useful information. I will take your advice and install some alarm system as well as floodlights.

But I have a feeling the break-ins are committed by the same person, so I would really like him to be caught. I could install a camera discreetly outside the kiosk but would it beam images to my laptop if I am some 10 miles away? Is there such a wireless system that can be bought on a budget?

I will, of course, use the cameral in addition to the alarm system

Hi Salina, When you say a budget what kind of money are you talking about? There are camera's available that will take pictures and send them to your mobile phone via sms , they can be hidden in trees or shruberry, we have sold a few to the local councel to aid with the capture of fly tippers to some success, they are battery operated and can have infra-red, give us a call if you want some more info, if your close enough we would also quote you for the alarm system.
Regards Iain
