People are much bolder now than they used to be. I was awakened about 2 a.m. the other night by car lights in front of my house. I went down stairs and saw a taxi from the village. I went out and confronted the driver and asked what he was doing. He said he was lost! Right ..he got out and opened two large sets of garden gates to get where he was ...did I believe him? No way.

Vicki: You never should have left your house to confront him. You should have called the police.

Another way of finding out more about an area is to contact the local police.

After all, who knows better than the people that deal with most of the situations.

Belson, did I mention I was carrying a shotgun when I went out to confront the driver?

Oh- that's puts a different light on it. Did the driver see the shotgun? or did he just take off?

Try www.upmystreet.com enter the postcode, send, then when the area info comes up look to the right of the screen and it has "policing and crime" click on there - gives you the figures and the national average to compare it to. Often there is only domestic burglary and theft of motor vehicle listed, but then they are pretty good indicators of a crime level.

Personally, rather than search for the safest place to live as I'm not sure that it exists, I'd search for the safest area of a place that I like.
