Cool Re: Safest place to live?

I don't know if MSN has this for the UK, but I was able to look up all sorts of stats on communities including crime rates, schooling, and other general demographics. Quite helpful if you're looking to move to a new area!

Is anywhere really safe these days??? We have friends who live on a farm miles out of town and they still have people popping up and stealing animals and goods from their gardens. So much for good will to all man that's for sure... even a charity isn't safe these days!

Good topic though.. be interesting to hear what you find.

People steal farm animals?? The logistics behind that is mind boggling.

yes that's totally random. I think its hard to say what or where is a safe place, nowadays it all depends on what people are like, not locations. You get freaks everywhere

Yes You Do Get Freaks Everywhere But I Used To Live In Oxford Then London And Now Live In Rural Wales..you Know It Is Pretty Safe Here Because The Local Newspapers Often Print About Petty Crimes Like Speeding Tickets ..you Can't Do Anything Round Here Bad Without The World And I Knowing All About It . For the UK there is a site called something like'up your street'(google) and if you go there and enter a post code you get the stats for any area in the UK, crime etc

this can be deceiving though because you can live in a supposed bad area but never have any problems or live in a good area but it has a high crime rate because there are desirable goods and vehicles there.

Up Your Street is a good site. Thanks!

I looked up my area in Scotland and it's far below the national averages in all crime except for speeding. I already knew that was bad here because of the fatalities which seem to be in the local paper each day. Narrow roads that are pretty flat out.

We have a little vandalism in the village on weekends but the police seem to be combating that pretty well these days.

All in all, I feel pretty safe ...but I still lock my doors even in a rural area.
