Was that awfu on Saturday or what? The horse broke 3 bones in his leg and has a 50/50 chance of survival. When a horse crashes through the gate like that, they're normally scratched, but since it was a million dollar race, I guess they decided not to - a decision they'll regret forever.

Barbaro is doing well. It's amazing. If it were any run of the mill horse, they would have been put down on the track, but there was too much money involved not to try to save the horse. It's juzt like humans. People with money get the best medical care while poor people get worse care.

I love horse racing but I'm wondering how "humane" it really is. I will never go to the circus because to have an elephant stand on its tippy toes is unnatural and cruel. But I always felt horses were born to run so I never saw it as anything bad. Now I'm not so sure.

Barbara has had to undergo 2 more surgeries. He is also fighting an infection. This is the thing about horses. They develop infections pretty easily. It's pretty touch and go for this poor animal.

The last couple of days have been a little better...Had 2 comfortable nights and his appetite is good. Good articles in today's New York's Newsday about this ordeal.
