They can help or hinder. Used to work as one. Got booted after saying that just cos someone was an assistant manager doesn't mean to say they wont steal (Guy was going to take the days takings out the tills on his own( big no no). 20 tills each taking at least 2 grand.)
Depends on your requirements. If its an office block then get two for reception that way one can stay if the other is on patrol. Get them to deal with all incoming deliveries and visitors/tradesmen. Speak to them personally after 6-8 weeks and if it appears neccesary get more. Never start with more as they may spin out the work and cost you more than you actually need to pay out. Employees get reassurance from the fact that you have in essence a wall between them and any threat, while your customers will not find it offensive as long as it is done in moderation and will also view your company in a better light, especially if you have their data/property in your premise If it is a retail establishment then judge it on the size. Your average Main DIY Store will Have between 2 and 6 Varying the number to match the time of day. If they are just standing at the door they are useless apart from keeping barred people out. ALWAYS ensure you have a roaming patrol (varying times and paths). Either way stick with large companies and if possible speak to other companies that use them. Invest in a Some high quality two way radio's for them and your management(without screens displaying the channel number). For office work always go for White shirts as it looks a lot better. Interesting post, Guard ..thanks.
I have recently noticed that our local big supermarket in a small village in Scotland has started placing guys at the door who are obviously security. I know there's a problem with yobs here at night, but the store seems like one of the most benign places in the world during the day when I go there. |

Regarding security guards, it all depends on the management of the security guards which will determine the performance of the guards. If the cats away, the mice will play. If you demonstrate that the mission of business that they are protecting is not worthwhile, then yes, the guards will treat the business as such. If you demonstrate that the mission of the business is worthwhile and they play an important role in the protection of the assets for the business, then without any doubt, the guards will treat the business as if it were their own. Hope this helps..SilverBack-Security Specialist from the US

I thnk security guards are a good idea, especially if you have employees who have to enter a dark parking lot at night. Just the idea that someone is nearby and will hear a cry for help can make all the difference in how safe someone feels working for your establishment.

I think that they can help as long as they do their job. I have seen instances where some will stand around and chit chat while who knows what is going out the door...or they focus all their attention to the employees and forget about the customers who are taking things.
