Where I live the police are awesome...we had a couple of teens hit our house with paint guns early one morning, and I didn't know if it was a police-worthy call. I called though, and the policewoman was at our house within ten minutes taking a report and assuring me the kids had already been caught and were charged with criminal mischief.
I'm wondering how this sort of thing compares to everyone else's locations? |

Where we live in Hull car crime and criminal damage were minor issues the police couldn't be bothered with - in fact, they decided to even stop responding to such calls unless a clear perp was fingered.
Would have much prefered a "zero tolerance" approach, but here in the UK the government seems more concerned with a cheap and bean counted police force, then an effective crime-fighting one. |

At times I think it's the community that makes a difference.
A couple of years ago there seemed to be a leak from my roof. I had someone come to look at it and to do so, he climed out through the bathroom window. Shortly after he left I had a policeman come knock on my door. It turned out that a neighbour sort someone climbing out of the window and decieded to call the police! |

Our ones are not too bad. Responded to a call out one night for the local nursery school. As i approached saw two youths running away so assumed it was safe to enter. when i got in cleared one end of the bulding and as i went down to the other i heard a clatter. phoned the police explaining the situation and had just put my phone in my pocket when there was banging all round me (s**t myself) looked round and there were coppers at nearly every door. Once I let them in realised there were 16 of them. they rechecked the building(ASPs in hand) then took details five minutes later K9 van turned up and apoligised for the delay(apparently due to traffic) For property they are not too bothered but if a person is at risk they turn out in force. I live in Paisley.

I don't know how well they respond when there's an actual crime taking place but when it comes to carbon monoxide they're awsome. I called the Fire Department because of an odd smell in the house and got not only a fire truck and several fireman in private vehicles but two guys from the local PD and a State Trooper who, I think, was just passing through and wanted to see what all the excitement was about.
