Default Which security systems?

If I needed to cover a car parking area for business, which sort of security systems should I be looking at installing?

The first thought that comes to mind is that I should use something like a CCTV surveillance system.

However, are there other types of security systems I could use aside from CCTV, and are there any specific advantages or disadvantages to using security systems other than CCTV, and if so, what are they?

Are you looking for protection of customers or for internal security management?

Well, the first question I'd suggest you look at is whether you need one or not. Most companies have a clear "left at own risk" policy when it comes to car parking, so you may find this is the simplest way to go.

I can see advantages where you may live in a particularly rough area and cars are routinely attacked. However, car crime appears to be treated with such disdain these days that if you're looking to ensure the safety of customer property during trading hours, you may actually find some form of security patrol is much more effective as a preventive measure, as they can stop determined criminals before any damage is done - especially if it's a small car park.

Even still, if you'd like CCTV as a deterrent, especially at the entrance to a car park, then basically any reputable system should be able to help you here. The type of system required will as much be down to:

1. Your budget
2. Area to cover
3. Your aims

If you're still not sure about that, then you could always contact Pakatak, who are a leading supplier in the UK of CCTV products:

They should be able to give you a better idea of your options according to your personal circumstances.

I would recommend that you check out the following web-based training modules:

Blue Rincon, Securing Your World with Technology

The training modules are under the "Knowledge Bank" section.

I Agree with Brian completely, Its very hard to reccomend anything in particular as we dont know if the area has one access maybe two? are there walls, is it an open area? its very hard to work anything out, Why not get a local company in to quote you and see what they recommend.
