Air guns

I need to buy something for rabbit riddance here in the U.K., and I know the laws changed for the buying and owning of smaller rifles. Does any one know what these are? I've searched the web and can't quite come up with a definitive answer.

Are you allowed to shoot rabbits without a permit or a licence? Is there no other way to scare them off?

I have also never heard of these? I have seen those new types of guns that shoot out those round plastic pellets. I think they are almost like a beebee gun but the pellets are plastic. But I have never heard of an air gun.

What about laying traps around (harmless hopefully) wouldn't those work well too?

Traps we have found will also work. I never thought to mention that. We would trap the animal and then depending on what animal it was we were trying to catch we would then take the cage and all and release it somewhere away from the house.

I assume that kennels or local erm...trapists know how to propely proceed, I wouldn't want to buy traps that could potentially hurt them.

I hadn't even HEARD that the laws had changed in the UK, to be honest. I thought all kinds of firearms were still banned without proper permits. Is this still the case, then?

I think you could buy a BB gun instead. Something that won't hurt so much. It would just scare them off instead. Try fencing your place too, to prevent them from coming in.

Yeah a BB gun is definitely the best choice...not to mention fencing...fencing would definitely keep them out.
