Default Car locks

I bought an old Land Rover for running around in, and was forced by the insurance company to have a lock system put on the steering wheel. I thought this was really stupid since I live in the country, don't use the vehicle in an urban area, it's in a garage at night and the value of it is very low. The cost on the anti-theft device was $300 and the cheapest I could find.

This sort of sucks. Don't insurance companies even look up to see where you live????

The only thing is the insurance companies have to protect themselves.

Are you in a foturnate position to say that there is not crime where you live. Even if so, what about when you are away from home?

To be honest, while the countryside may be subject to less crime, I've known people to have their vehicles broken into even at beauty spots. You don't expect it, but it happens. Sad, really.

Even though we've moved from the inner city to the Scottish countryside, we still follow basic security practices, such as never leaving any bags visible in the car when we leave it unattended, even if in the middle of nowhere. Opportunity is opportunity, and you never know who might take it.

How would they know if you didnt get the devise and you just said you had it? Do they actually check the vehicle? I locked my car doors when the car is in the driveway and i have no neighbors. I wouldnt put it past someone to walk in the yard at night and take gas or a batterie. Ive had it happen in the past.

When the device is installed, you're given a certificate with a number which you have to phone into the insurance company. It just seemed silly because of where the Land Rover was parked at night. Besides, it was one of those vehicles like 'who would want it?'. I just sold it and trust me, that device added nothing to the value lol.

Yes and no. A few years ago I added a vehicle to my insurance, using the address where I was living at the time. When I got my policy from the insurance company they had the new vehicle at the right address and my other vehicle at an old address. It was cheaper to insure a car at the old address so it broke my heart to have to correct them.
