I firmly believe that employee theft is worse once they get away with it, they keep doing it and generally increase the amount stolen. They tend to steal bigger ticket items and large portions of cash than consumers.

My first thought was that customers would steal more than employees. That probably comes from the publicity generated by shoplifting, because, after reading this thread, I see what folks are saying about employee theft. Wow, and I always felt guilty about the odd pen or paperclip.

I have been in retail for 30 years and have seen both customers and employees being caught for shoplifting. It just upsets me that they focus so much on employees and not enough on customers. I find tickets and empty packages all the time in my dept. Also I hate it when some security only watch certain types of people. They act like if people are dressed nice or look nice that they don't steal. That is so wrong.
