I firmly believe that employee theft is worse once they get away with it, they keep doing it and generally increase the amount stolen. They tend to steal bigger ticket items and large portions of cash than consumers.

That's quite the sad state of affair, when there is more internal theft then outside...then again I guess it's probably easier to monitor though.

Stealing is rampant when it's not dealt with. Sadly, sometimes you need to make an example of someone in order to deal with the issue.

That's a trivia. I never thought that Wal*Mart's eyes would be on their employees. I know that some employees steal from there employers however, sometimes it is just a false justification. I have a friend who had money, I can say she's definitely rich, she got bored and decided to work as a Medical Secretary, she and her boss became close friends, She shopped for the clinic and bought food for her bosse's fridge out of her own pocket. The time came that she got tired and told her boss that she will quit her job. Her boss got so angry with her and made up stories that my friend stole from her, she was talking about $1000 in cash and other pharmaceuticals stuff. My friend was proven innocent of the accusations. I guess some employers are just a**.

I hope he didn't press charges or anything like that. Probably not, if he was making it all up to begin with.

You mean my friend's boss reviewer? Yes she did file charges but she didn't prove anything. My friend was proven innocent of the accusations. There were no stealing that took place. She just want to get back at her, She was the best employee she had. Who else would shop for her boss out of her own pocket? I won't do that unless it was my boss birthday. In my friend's case she was taken advantage.

My first thought was that customers would steal more than employees. That probably comes from the publicity generated by shoplifting, because, after reading this thread, I see what folks are saying about employee theft. Wow, and I always felt guilty about the odd pen or paperclip.

One of my kids' friends got caugth shoplifting. She and her family were so embarrassed. She stole a $5 bracelet which after fines and all, ended up costing her nearly $500.

I did that once when I was young. I took a candy bar and my Mom took me right back and made me give it back. I still remember that to this day.

I have been in retail for 30 years and have seen both customers and employees being caught for shoplifting. It just upsets me that they focus so much on employees and not enough on customers. I find tickets and empty packages all the time in my dept. Also I hate it when some security only watch certain types of people. They act like if people are dressed nice or look nice that they don't steal. That is so wrong.
