I was reading one of those advice-from-a-former-burgler articles on home security. In it the author mentioned that the well known brands of home security system are easy to bypass, but that's all the information he gave. Does anybody know anything about how effective these really are?

That does make sense that the burglers would know how to break into the most popular systems. What i have done for years is use a sign on my lawn that says i have a certain system installed when i fact i dont LOL. I figure it keeps the honest folks at bay lol.

Oh wow, I never even thought about using one of those signs. That is actually a very good idea. I think I might mention this to a neighbor of ours who has been having trouble with kids destroying things on his property. Thanks for the suggestion that is a very unique idea.

You know a sign that would self detonate would send me to jail but it sure would make someone think twice if they knew these were out there. Maybe something that would make a very loud noise instead but then I guess we already have that with the alarm systems on the market.
