Default Terrorism

This area is beginning to become an area of security concern for some people ...especially those who live in urban areas. Any one do anything differently now because of it?

I know I don't ride the subways in NYC much anymore because I dislike being underground, and I know the tunnels are vunerable.

You know I don't think about the dangers all that much in my everyday travels. But if I had to fly a lot or did a lot of traveling I would probably be more aware of the dangers of terriosm. Not to say that I don't think it could ever happen here again but it is just not something I want to base my life around by constantly worriying about what could happen.

Exactly. We cant predict things and its no use trying. By being scared terrorists are getting us to do exactly what they want us to do.

The thing about terrorist attacks is that they are rare - certainly in the US and UK. It's simply that when they happen, they get full attention.

Compared to more regularly accepted "risks" of death such as from car accidents and smoking, terrorism really is very low on the list. It's the unpredicatability that makes it hard to accept.

2c.

Frankly, I don't consider it a concern. The odds of terrorist attacks harming me are vanishingly low, even post-9/11.

Yes, the odds are low, but consider this: As a country, the US has never had serious Terrorist attcks until the Oklahoma city bombing. And after 9/11, and the ease at which illegal immigrants are getting into this country the threat is just getting greater. Particularly in the bigger areas

I agree that we all should take resonable precautions. To a degree, I grew up with that mindset, as I lived in an area that boasts two military facilities within close proximity, both of them doing rather important stuff, so the idea that an enemy would want to take out both facilities is something that is always in the back of our minds.

At the same time, one cannot live in a constant state of alert. Do what you can, but do not allow any of this to stop you from living.

Sadly, I think that "Terrorism" is now a key word for getting money out of gullible people.

Your personal home shelter won't do you any good once you run out a bit of food and find the devastated land. There's way too many people who develop some sort of paranoia that everything is going to end at any moment.

Terrorism has now become a weapon to attract money from the target. In most of the cases it is the common people who are the primary sufferers. Terrorists target innocent civilians to put pressure on Governments. I think it is the involvement of common people which can help prevent terrorists designs.
